itās such a heavily used trope in modern media (off the top of my head I can think of Pokemon, Annihilation, Bambi, Snow White and the Huntsman, etc) and why wouldnāt it be! antlers look like branches, branches look like antlers, itās only natural to pair them
but it makes me strangely emotional that our brains have always worked this way, and been drawn to the same imagery over and over again.Ā
Iām also going to resist the urge to make paired enamel pins of these ancient deer, even though I deeply desireĀ little wearable tributes of the past
Iām pretty sure the reason it comes up so much throughout time is because itās a real thing.
Deer antlers start off covered in velvet, which is a layer of skin with blood vessels which help is grow. But once the antlers reach full size, the velvet has to come off, and since they donāt have hands, the best way is to rub the antlers on trees. (Which Iām not including pictures of itself because thereās a lot of blood.) Which sometimes ends up with leaves and branches caught in them.
Also when you walk around with bigass things attached to your head, you get them caught in stuff sometimes.
These are all pics of the same spider, a large female shamrock orbweaver (Araneustrifolium) that lives in a local field.
Back in August, her abdomen was pale yellow to blend in with the foliage. Now that the weather has cooled and the leaves she builds her web among are dying, sheās changed color and become reddish brown with white spots.
the largest of my baby garden snails is now basically an adult, and look how stunning they are! their shell is so dark, and their body too. they’ve become a snupermodel ✨
This is a new pony I made last night to reflect myself more. My other pony looks like me but isn’t….me???? Idk but I like this one a lot! Her special talent is she helps other ponies to not be afraid of creepy and scary things and shows them they aren’t that scary! She loves!!! creepy things and finds them all cute! Idk what to name her?? But I’ll find something eventually!
