False rape accusations are an anomaly.

True rape accusations are a norm.

You’re, quite literally, more likely to be killed by a comet than falsely accused of rape.

Re-blog now, read later.

“Because 1 in 33 men will be raped in his lifetime, men are 82,000x more likely to be raped than falsely accused of rape. It seems many of us would do well to pay more attention to how rape culture affects us all than be paranoid about false accusers.”

Brilliant Indian comic book turns rape victim into a kick-ass super hero

India’s rape crisis has a new female face, but it’s not what you think.

A new comic book, Priya’s Shakti, is making waves in India for its unconventional heroine: a rape victim-turned-superhero who fights gendered violence with the help of the Hindu goddess Parvati.

According to the comic’s website, the storyline focuses on Priya, a mortal woman who experienced a brutal rape and ensuing social stigma and isolation. Inspired by Parvati, Priya breaks her silence and reveals her assault, encouraging people around the world to take action against sexual violence.

This is much more than a comic. Literally.

Aw babe :c

I think it’s normal not to know what to do in these situations, even when you’re 100% sure what’s going on, because it is really scary. And part of it is the fear of making a scene in public and people judging you, and the self doubt that it’s not really as bad as you’re making it seem, and then there’s this super legitimate fear that comes from the fact that men rape and murder women all the time for slighter offenses, often just for the crime of existing in a world that is not kind to women and yeah I had to stop writing this a couple times because of angry sobbing at the unfairness of it all. And like (and obv I’m not trying to compare this to your experience/ obv I’ve been through way scarier man-related incidents than the one I’m about to describe) yesterday when I was working at the birdhouse I had to ask this guy to stop feeding the ducks and it made me so nervous, like I was physically shaking and my throat gummed up because this guy was huge, he was like 4 times the size of me but I realized later the size wouldn’t have made any difference and I wouldn’t have been nervous at all if it had been a woman. And isn’t that fucked up? That we live in a world that even in the most innocent of situations it’s hard to speak up to men, yet we judge women (including ourselves) who are to scared to speak up when we’re being sexually harassed. What a world. What a terrible fucking world

Anyways sorry that got a little out of hand Nika I hope you feel better + I love you mucho
