Lacombe on his project:

We relish the chance to see these animals up close, but we also often fail to notice the habitats in which we keep them. That is why I photograph from a regular visitor’s perspective, instead of doing a behind-the-scenes documentary. I want the viewer to revisit what they see in zoos, and look beyond the animal. So, really, these photos are not about the animals - they are about us. It documents what happens when humans use animals as objects of display and entertainment.

Zoos are so depressing.

This is not what zoos are supposed to look like! Zoos are really important for research and conservation but most of these are pictures of animal abuse and it’s essential that people understand this.

Does anyone else find this poor creature as horrifying as I do?
From the bugged-out eyes to the weak pasterns..
Nightmare material.

“Teacup” just wasn’t enough so they devised the name “micro" to describe what should have been abortions:

Here’s a normal baby chihuahua:

When it comes to teacup breeding, the only standard is size. This means  all other criteria go out the window - genetics, eyesight, neurology, structure, joint health, digestion, immune system, all of the inner workings that make a dog function.

I can’t find the article of the cautionary tale I wanted to include, but this will do: http://www.barktopia.com/teacup.htm

i don’t find these poor dogs scary, just really, really sad
