Nature’s Little Shop of Horrors…..
This hawkmoth has been parasitized by an Akanthomyces fungus, a Cordyceps anamorph peculiar to moths until it caused it’s demise (while in a normal resting position) and totally consuming and mummifying the corpse.
A spore stalk can be seen protruding from the underside of the carcass’s abdomen….
