nostalgicfun:

So this might be oddly specific, but you know what I get nostalgic for? Back from like…2002-2009, when chain-emails were all the rage. And not even the type that were like “forward this to seven people for good luck,” (those too, though!) but the type that passed around comics, jokes, one-liners, and fun facts. I never see old email culture discussed, but it was sort of the precursor to social media and memes. Old people would send out political comics, or you’d get a list of funny animal facts all written in red comic sans. And the email subject would always be “FWD: FWD: FWD: FWD: RE: IN CASE YOU NEED A LAUGH…” and there would always be someone who nested something like “thanks Dan! Say hi to the kids!”

And don’t even get me started on toolbars like “Smiley Central” that basically let you use emojis in your email before emojis were cool. And that you could attach MIDIs to emails so they’d play when people opened them? Animated backgrounds? GLITTER TEXT? Man I miss emails.
