the kagu is an unusual bird endemic to new caledonia. their appearance is marked by their soft grey plumage and large crest, arching over their shoulders; in addition, the kagu is the only bird possessing βnasal cornsβ, passageways that protect the nostrils. kagu mainly hunt prey on the ground, as they are almost entirely flightless. due to their poor flight, they are vulnerable to introduced predators, and as such are now endangered.
