Listen, I know I am captain of ship Media Representation Matters, but sometimes I think we need to move past our weird belief that media criticism should be a large focus, or even the foundational core, of our activism.
Sometimes the way we treat liking or disliking media feels so much like consumerist imitations of activism. Like a sudden belief in the myth of personal freedom and ethical consumption. Like how fucking capitalist is it to be like, “want to fix society? then voice your opinion by consuming the correct media and carefully curating the correct opinion on it, which you express in other media for other people to consume” like media consumption isn’t activism? and not liking something also isn’t activism?
