The reaction of “reclusive” children’s author Lemony Snicket to the news that Netflix will be adapting his book series A Series Of Unfortunate Events into a TV show. Of course, the first few books were combined and adapted into a film starring Emily Browning, Jim Carrey, Meryl Streep, Timothy Spall and Billy Connolly in 2004, but despite wishes of fans, a film franchise never developed. Paramount - who produced the 2004 film - will co-produce the TV series in association Netflix, with Daniel Handler (the man behind the Snicket pen-name) serving as executive producer. The 13-book series has sold 65 million copies around the world in 43 languages since 1999 and its television counterpart will be the latest addition to Netflix’s burgeoning original series portfolio, which ranges from established hits like Arrested Development, Orange Is The New Black, and House Of Cards, to the upcoming Marvel reboot Daredevil and the recently-ordered Richie Rich and Madagascar franchise spin-off All Hail King Julien.
