I wanted to know more about the victims of today’s horrifying massacre, and since the media’s information wasn’t quite specific enough, I took to Facebook to look for them.
What I found was this playful, innocent status written by a student of Peshawar’s Army Public school. You can just tell how much these kids loved being at school.
Mubeen Shah, the boy at the end, uploaded his cover photo a while back with this quote: “We are a nation of beauty and great grief. Our smiles are much stronger than your guns.”
Mubeen and his other three friends in this picture were all killed by the Taliban today.
And, as much as I want to, I don’t know how to look at these kids and tell them to “Rest in Peace”
Because how can they “Rest in Peace” when every article covering their massacre is riddled by Islamophobic comments?
How can they “Rest in Peace” when they, the victims, are categorized alongside their oppressors?
You do not have to be any particular religion or political party to mourn alongside Pakistan today. Muslim, Christian, Democrat, Republican: it doesn’t matter.
All you have to be is awake.

it’s pretty common for people discussing rape culture within feminist discourse to conveniently leave out disabled girls, but this is just a casual reminder that disabled women are far more likely to be sexually assaulted, abused or raped than…

Pakistani group makes giant poster of child for drone operators to see
A group called #NotABugSplat unraveled a 90 x 60 foot vinyl poster of a girl facing up to the sky in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region of Northwest Pakistan. The child remains nameless, but organizations that helped launch the project said she lost both her parents in a drone strike.
The group said it hopes drone operators see the picture and think twice about an airstrike.

Unbelievably tragic #fact shared by Rita Garza of the Urban Resource Institute today. Her org has a program that helps domestic violence victims by giving victims’ pets the ability to be sheltered as well. Pretty amazing! #BetterWithPets @purinaJust gonna leave this here and go cry somewhere.
Because that’s part of why I didn’t report things….I understand this and I never wanted to, believe me.
I work in veterinary medicine, and volunteered in an animal shelter before that, so this is relevant to my interests on multiple levels. And I’ve been telling people about this ever since I learned about it because it’s so important. Whenever we see an abused animal at work, my first thought is to wonder whether there’s also a human being abused, either directly or through the animal. Abusers have been known to acquire pets specifically for this reason.
Fortunately the local LGBT-friendly abuse organization also has a pet-friendly shelter, and I’ve been trying to get their flyers into our hospital’s waiting areas (they’re already in the shelter, which is awesome), because this is so important.
I would love to work with the MSPCA to create some kind of “we foster your pet while you escape from your abuser” program, but I have no idea who to propose it to.
That is /such/ a good idea!

My lifes not going too great at the moment. I had planned to have petted at least 40% of the dogs on planet earth by now and I have petted maybe 0.5% of the dogs.
I just did the math and it turns out 0.5% of the dogs on the planet is 26 million and I dont even think I’ve petted that many :(

Cats who can’t figure out walls [x]
PLEASE TAKE YOUR CAT TO THE VET IF YOU SEE THEM DOING THIS BEHAVIOR OVER TIME.
It’s called “head pressing” and it occurs in dogs and cats.
Head pressing is characterized by the compulsive act of pressing the head against a wall or other object for no apparent reason. This generally indicates damage to the nervous system, which may result from a number of varying causes, including prosencephalon disease (in which the forebrain and thalamusparts of the brain are damaged), or toxic poisoning.

I’m so glad someone else brought this up! I didn’t know about it until I started in Vet Tech.

Romantic subplots are the worst like
“Hey YOU. You can’t experience personal growth without having a partner there to validate your progress, that’s now how the world works. Now go out there and cry because you’re single and you think that you won’t be able to grow as an individual without a partner.”
(P.S. wOW these drawings.)
