11 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE PLANNING YOUR NEXT TRIP TO THE ZOO

If you’re like most Americans, chances are you’ve visited a zoo. Maybe you’ve only gone to one on a school field trip, or maybe it’s one of your favorite places to go, but whatever the case, zoos are popular in this country.

This is a bad post!!! I mean obviously there ARE zoos like this, which is horrible, but definitely not most of them (in America at least). There are over 200 AZA certified zoos in the US and each of them has to meet rigorous standards of animal health. If you go to a decent zoo like the Philadelphia Zoo you will not see giraffes in small indoor exhibits or animals exhibiting stereotypic behavior. I am passionate about taking good care of animals but I will defend zoos til my dying breath– for animals raised by humans and treated poorly (as unfortunately happens to many apes and large cats) good zoos can be the only place they can live happy and healthy lives. For species in danger of extinction, zoos and their breeding programs can be their only salvation. Please do not come onto my dashboard and talk shit about zoos
