walt whitman shopping center, huntington station (a town on long island), ny, circa 1988
yellow globes of power encyrcle ur soul and rock panelling and myrrors and the distinguished typeface of the A & S sign all powerfully hypnotize ur sense and inform u that many cool moms will check out the jewelry counter at this department store u can tell that this is the style of mall design based around an uncompromisingly high-class feel where u are supposed to sense that u are in some gilded palace of the sun king in this case the feel is accomplished by the alternating rock panelling and mirror panelling on the left wall and the rows of singular (not in clusters like the early 1980s cluster globe boob lights i have had on this blog before) globe lights and the polished stone seats and polished marble planters but that regal style reached its zenith nearly 10 years later when department stores got heavy into the gold-trimmed gleaming white marble everywhere at all times but we will get there soon enough for the moment we are still getting hyped up into a very regal feel by this 1988 mall also notice the mailbox next to the A & S sign that is a nice public service to have a mailbox there
