Echinocereus pectinatus

While many species of Echinocereus are extremely spiny, earning them the name “hedgehog cacti”, there are others with neat rows of small spines pressed against the body of the plant. As can be seen here, E. pecinatus is one of the latter sort. It has a large distribution in several states of northern Mexico, and it never fails to amaze people with its very large flowers when they see it in bloom.
