found a Porcellio laevis mother who had just given birth! isopods do not lay eggs externally but develop their young from eggs to babies in a marsupium under their bellies. in a very mammalian fashion, mama isopods will find a secluded spot away from other isopods to give birth.

mother Porcellio spp. don’t exhibit as much maternal care as other isopod species, but they will stand guard over their newborns until they molt to a more mobile form after a couple hours, after which they’ll be able to fend for themselves.
