the green catbird is a colorful bird species found in southeastern australia. despite their names, these birds arenβt related to other catbirds, but are members of the bowerbird family; however, they do produce signature cat-like vocalizations. the sexes are hard to differentiate by sight, but males proposition females in a way similar to other bowerbirds. while they do not build bowers, they do perform a mating dance on a clear patch of ground, along with offering out prized items to their potential mate. once the green catbird chooses a mate, they are monogamous; the pair bond is maintained even past the breeding season by sharing food and performing duets together. while most often preferring fruits and vegetables, the species will also feed on insects and even small vertebrates like frogs.
