the fact that in the mlp universe people from other countries or implied ethnic groups are often other species - yaks, horses, zebras, griffons, buffalo - but the equestrian vernacular is “everypony” is like i guess in medieval britain if people said “everyanglosaxon.” clearly the writers didn’t think about this too deeply and there are ponies (species) that are clearly specifically “coded” as races besides white, namely some aztec and black ponies if i recall correctly, but it comes off very reactionary and the world building implications— *my tinder date gets up and leaves* alright fair
*now talking to a really drunk guy at a bar of the same restaurant an hour later* and a lot of the linguistics make no sense. applejack has a very southern accent, clearly american. there are ponies that have many accents from places that do not correspond to their lore-friendly “species” so what is this meaning to tell us? i’ll tell you what. there is no way ANY human language or any of its quirks could have evolved in a world like this. even if it is inhabited by sentient quadrupeds, the specific nuances of human speech would just not fly, nevermind modern american english. which brings me to the only possible conclusion: mlp:fim is a dub. none of the ponies speak english. they’re all neighing. and whatever flavor of accent that is given to us, the audience, is an attempt at communicating whatever unknowable sounds and whinnies and keens are being neighed with nuance, barely possible to hold in comparison to human cultural equivalencies *drunk guy pukes on my shirt*
