Sort of a short story. This is more an art/literature piece of writing than an adventure, and it is probably one of the most utterly spooky things I have ever read.

“If you ride fast enough, the Specialist can’t catch you.”

“What’s the Specialist?” Samantha says. Bicycles are okay, but horses can go faster.

“The Specialist wears a hat,” say the babysitter. “The hat makes noises.”

She doesn’t say anything else.

(I do not know whether that’s a typo, because it is the sort of story where I am never quite sure.)

Kelly Link is one of the best short story writers I’ve ever found and if you like this fic you should get Pretty Monsters and have feels forever.
