someone needs to make a convenient chart or list of how certain foods are “supposed” to taste or feel because my friend has an allergy to mangoes that makes them taste like “pine” to him, until a few years ago I thought everyone’s gums got sore after eating an avocado, tumblr beetledrink didn’t realize it was weird for potatoes to make you hot and sweaty, there’s no telling how many people are tasting things wrong or think something is just real spicy when it’s actually trying to kill them
So there’s a TON of people in the notes saying that mangoes are supposed to taste at least a little piney.
@doctorguilty is the friend I mention and for him a mango tastes like pure overwhelming pine scent.
But for me, and other people in my life, there isn’t even the “hint” of pine some of you are mentioning! They share a compound but no I don’t taste anything remotely like a pine tree in any mango.
It’s completely reasonable to think a mild tingling or spiciness or acidic quality just comes with a food but I absolutely love the responses to this that are like “I just thought swordfish made everyone’s flesh blister and their toenails fall off”
“I was telling my friend how much I love hash browns but that I’m just not as big on the 24 hours of ensuing blindness and they acted like I was crazy”
“I LIKED how M&M’s set my house on fire, I thought that was the point”
