Summer Beach Horror Reads #1

As anyone who has read a copy of Grady Hendrix’s Paperbacks from Hell knows, the 80s was a boom-time for horror fiction. But who wants to read a scary novel late at night when you can do it on the beach while working on your tan? Just make sure you make it thematically appropriate. Like tracking down Guy N. Smith’s series on crustacean scares. Out of print (sadly?), there are  copies to be found at used book stores, thrift shops, Goodwill, dodgy sea food restaurants, the internet, etc. Smith published six crab-pocalyptic novels, beginning with Night of the Crabs (1976) on through Crabs: The Human Sacrifice (1988), then later returned to the series with the aptly entitled Killer Crabs: The Return (2012). Shlock-tastic reads, the books are perfect in their own way.

I’m totally getting crab cakes for dinner tonight.
