Kitten says that making an intact abdominal body wall is for losers.
So we sent this hernia and the attached kitten out to foster yesterday evening.
Today I get a medical concern email from the foster parent.
They were emailing to inform us…
that the kitten had a hernia.
Do you have any idea how hard it to professionally word “No shit?” when you’ve had a continuation of the ‘motherfucker!’-type day?
I think I ended up with “We are very, very much aware of that hernia but fixing it requires surgical intervention and the kitten is not large or healthy enough at this time.”
The day after this, the foster parent had a valid email- the hernia was significantly larger (and it was, which is mind boggling) and the kitten couldn’t defecate.
So today they’re doing surgery on it to try to repair everything. Kitten is only half a pound so this is a true emergency surgery with a high potential for a very poor outcome.
Really hope this little one makes it.
*edit*
It appears she’s survived the surgery at least. She’s still in danger, but the first hurdle has been leapt.
My coworker who intubated this 0.5# kitten and monitored the surgery sent me some pictures!!!
Update from foster parent, 1 week since surgery:
“She’s eating great, playful, and defecating fine.”
Cats are fucking amazing!
Sheβs up for adoption!
