todaysbird:

hoopoe is a name used for any three species; the african hoopoe, eurasian hoopoe, and madagascan hoopoe. these three species are found in europe, asia, and africa, but they are most associated with africa. hoopoes forage for insects by jabbing their curved bills into the ground; they also occasionally feed on small reptiles and vegetation. hoopoes need little to survive - they require a habitat with insects, a water source, and nesting cavities, and they can survive even in habitats with sparse resources. in their ‘free time’, hoopoes are found to enjoy sunbathing and dust baths.
