I just found out my dad interviewed Ursula le Guin when he was in his mid twenties and living in Portland. He didn’t work for any kind of publication, he just wanted an excuse to talk to her. So he just called up a hip underground paper and was like “hey can I interview popular science fiction writer ursula k le guin for you guys” and they were like “yeah sure dude” so he found her phone number in the phone book (!) and called her up and then went to her house and interviewed her. People say that in the age of twitter we have unique and unprecedented access to celebrities but actually that access was always available to the ballsiest among us
