This extremely nice frog is a water holding frog [Cyclorana platycephala]. A stout little burrower, these frogs conserve moisture by surrounding themselves in a “cocoon” of bodily secretions in order to wait out long dry periods. The Australian Aborigines found this ability to be very useful, and would uproot the frogs to gently squeeze them and drink their urine, which is mostly just water. This specimen was not uprooted for its pee, but rather encountered naturally by photographer Stephen Zozaya in Farrars Channels, Queensland.
