The second article underlines how islamophobia is the major factor bringing gay men in far-right circles. This is all another repercussion of the french LGBT divide between the white gay men in Paris’ neighbourhood ‘Le Marais’ (and in other big cities), where liberalism made it easier for them to be visible in upper-middle class circles without feeling threatened, and other members of the community.
The french episode of Gaycation had already pointed out this divide last summer, with diverging accounts from the said white gay men of Le Marais and black and muslim gay men, lesbians and trans french people from Paris, who were then expressing their discontent with the lack of visibility and the need of mere recognition and solidarity within the french LGBT community.
SOS Homophobie launched this year a survey among LGBT french people who aren’t white, to start a discussion about their particular experiences in french society.
