answered:

The confederate flag represents a nation based around slavery. It represents a time when the south was vehemently fighting to keep slavery legal. In the 1940s, the flag was used by the Dixiecrats, a political party that was devoted to maintaining segregation. The flag has been flown by the KKK. It has been flown by white supremacists. The flag has ties to racial injustice that extends much further beyond the Civil War, and I cannot comprehend why anybody would want to be associated with a flag that has such strong ties to racism and hate.
