asked:
What are your view on masculinity inside the queer community?

answered:

I feel like so much of the queer community has been coopted by heteronormative practices and attitudes of cissexism (mostly perpetrated by white gays who jumped on the whole queer identity bandwagon), and because of this, I’ve sort of distanced myself from queer spaces altogether (not that there are many to begin with), even though I still do identify as queer as far as my sexual orientation is concerned.

Idk, I speak from an observational standpoint and root my observations in firsthand experience, and from what I can see, toxic concepts of masculinity that are prevalent in mainstream American society have ran over into the LGBTQIA communities and it affects us all in various ways that I’m not sure I need to go into.

Masculinity in itself is not necessarily bad, but the reinforcement of internalized hypermasculinity and hypersexualized masculinities within LGBTQIA spaces is extremely detrimental and surely does not coincide with what queerness addresses.🔻
