It’s been a bit but wasn’t the whole point that the ‘nice guy’ was a literal super villain who wanted to murder the dude who ‘got her’ and saw her as just another conquest to do? It just happened that the other dude was also a dick.

yeah but the point falls a bit short when dr horrible is coded to be the protag (like dressing in white with light hair while captain hammer is dressed in black and such) and the nice guy angle doesnt really feel subverted enough since the girl character is like… a felicia day shaped list of nice traits and no personality and she dies to create manpain

and like literally no one points out the fact that dr horrible never once expressed romantic feelings to penny yet the entire narrative really seemed to play up that they belonged together

whether it’s intended to be or not Doctor Horrible fails spectacularly at being a subversion of the nice guy trope by having the female character be completely bland and having the main impact of her death be “look how much her death has emotionally affected the poor tragic man, look at his man pain”

doctor horrible’s sing along blog is entertaining but let’s not pretend it’s any more deep and insightful than the average nerd shit
