i have heard a lot of funny drug stories in my time but to this day the funniest is still the one my mum told me as a caution against “doing marijuana”. she told me with great seriousness that she had done it only once, in the mid-late 80s, and the club she took it in had immediately turned into a wild, out-of-control blur, after which she was quickly left with a dry mouth, throbbing headache, and soreness all over, and of course vowed never to do weed again - much less any other drugs, because if the ‘gateway drug’ was that intense, what would the others be like! upon further questioning, she explained that yes, she was 100% sure the flaky-salt-esque white crystals she’d had were weed, because “the person giving it to me had me smoke it from one of those hookah things, and that’s what people use for marijuana”. the absolutely godly self restraint my 14 year old self had to exhibit while very seriously nodding along like “yes this is some sage wisdom mother i will never do weed ever in my life”, somehow managing not to lose it as my mum admitted she had smoked crack without realising
