Albert and Gladys Christensen built “Hole N’ The Rock” in Moab, Utah, over the course of more than 20 years, with Mr. Christensen chipping away at some 50,000 cubic feet of sandstone.

image

It began as a small alcove for their 2 boys to sleep in.

image

And, it grew into a man-made living marvel.

image
image
image

Al carved out 14 rooms arranged around large pillars.

image

He even carved a tub out of rock.

image

Along with Al’s collection of taxidermy and his paintings, there’s also a collection of creepy dolls.

image
image

Here’s Gladys sitting in her kitchen.

image

Al even built a luncheonette counter and souvenir stand for tourists.

image

He added this sculpture in the rock.

image

Even some humor.

image

Look at this Jeep made of scrap.

image

And, this 2 story outhouse.

image

It’s still open and you can visit. They’ve added a zoo, a trading post, a general store, s museum, and a collection of metal art.

image

Look at how massive it is. Looks like someone starting boring in the rock on the upper level too.
