This is âColinâs Barn,â a hobbit-like superstructure built in the 1980s by a farmerâ to house his sheep.
Do you believe this structure? Now, itâs abandoned and in the middle of nowhere (aka Chedglow, England).
Colin Stokes is the
sheep farmer who built this place and once owned this land, but gave it all up when a quarry opened nearby, threatening to make too much noise.
He built this labyrinthine two story house using mostly stone he found just lying aroundâ and it took 11 years.
During lambing season, Colin often slept in a room on the second floor, watching over his flock.
He didnât have any plans, it just grew.
He made the windows himself, depicting the 4 seasons.Â
This is really beautiful, and now itâs become a sanctuary for birds.Â
Stokes moved to Scotland and since giving it all up,
has only been back to visit and doesnât like people calling it a âhobbit house.â
You would think that it would have deteriorated, but itâs still in pretty good condition. What a shame that he left b/c of a quarry setting up shop.
