Most mass murderers do not go from zero to 60. Rodger made escalating assaults on women (splashing coffee on them, attempting to shove them off a ledge) before his killing spree. Both Cho and Justin-Jinich’s murderer harassed women before they killed anyone. When such acts go unnoticed and unpunished β€” because we expect men to harass women, and it’s not outrageous or even noteworthy when they do β€” they can become stepping-stones to more conspicuous and less socially acceptable acts of violence.

Raina Lipsitz

Interesting to note that while a history of animal cruelty is widely accepted to be a link with becoming a serial killer, the link between cruelty towards women and killing women is still up for debate. If a guy abuses a cat and then shoots women we say “we should have seen it coming that guy was nuts”, but if abuses women and then shoots women we say “we had no way of seeing it coming that guy was a perfectly polite, kind and wonderful human.

Pontypool… The word may conjure up thoughts of the small town in the south of Wales, and subsequently decidedly not-horrifying images of rolling hills, pastoral landscapes and sheep, but it also happens to the title of one of the most bewitching horrors of the last decade, one which is effectively unique in the genre.

Borrowing from Orson Welles’ infamous War Of The Worlds radio broadcast and limiting our insight into the film’s universe to a small-town radio station, Pontypool is a film which, like Berberian Sound Studio, places the use of sound in the spotlight. We learn something is very wrong in the town the same time as the four characters we spend the film with, with phone calls and radio segments providing plot progression and some genuine high tension. It’s a time-tested but oft-ignored tactic of horror films to hide your monsters and threats out of the camera’s sight, this allowing the audience’s imaginations to whip up a frenzy, and that’s exactly what Pontypool does so well. We never get more than a brief glimpse of the town descending into chaos, leaving us in the same place as the characters, equally as anxious and ignorant, terrified and confused.

Some may scoff at the big reveal towards the film’s climax, and it’s quite an odd one, but it only aids Pontypool’s crescendo of fear and tension, and is just another element which makes this such a singular piece of horror.

This youtuber explores abandoned mines. He states that the Horton mine located in Nevada was one of his creepiest experiences. As he ventures further down the tunnel he feels the presence of something negative & unwordly. He sees one of the chains swinging by itself. Just one chain, none of the others are moving. The chain’s movement is pretty irregular also. The moment he said he didn’t feel comfortable in there the chain started to be yanked slightly harder to the right as if indicating excitement. Most take this video as a legit paranormal file. theneighbourhoodsuperhero:

Omar Khadr, a sixteen year old Guantanamo Bay detainee weeps uncontrollably, clutching at his face and hair as he calls out for his mother to save him from his torment. “Ya Ummi, Ya Ummi (Oh Mother, Oh Mother),” he wails repeatedly, hauntingly with each breath he takes.

The surveillance tapes, released by Khadr’s defence, show him left alone in an interrogation room for a “break” after he tried complaining to CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) officers about his poor health due to insufficient medical attention. Ignoring his complaints and trying to get him to make false confessions, the officers get frustrated with the sixteen year old’s tears and tell him to get himself together by the time they come back from their break.

“You don’t care about me. Nobody cares about me,” he sobs to them.

The tapes show how the officers manipulated Khadr into thinking that they were helping him because they were also Canadian and how they taunted him with the prospect of home (Canada), (good) food, and familial reunion.

Khadr, a Canadian, was taken into US custody at the age of fifteen, tortured and refused medical attention because he wouldn’t attest to being a member of Al Qaeda, even though he was shot three times in the chest and had shrapnel embedded in his eyes and right shoulder. As a result, Khadr’s left eye is now permanently blind, the vision in his right eye is deteriorating, he develops severe pain in his right shoulder when the temperature drops, and he suffers from extreme nightmares.

He has been incarcerated at Guantanamo Bay since 2002, suffering extremely harsh interrogations and torture (methods), and is now 25 years old.

27 now, and still imprisoned

i’m in complete shock. i’m so nauseous right now. how is this possible? i don’t know what to do w/ this information. i share it because i can’t imagine that anyone else knows about this. the boy has been incarcerated, tortured, and basically maimed allll w/out a trial. my heart hurts :/

Empire.

Omar is no longer in Guantanamo. Left without options, he pled guilty to war crimes so that he’d be given an eight year sentence and be able to transfer to a prison in Canada. He remains in prison there. His story is absolutely heartbreaking. This was a 15 year old boy who has been described as crying out for his mother, who slept holding a Mickey Mouse book one of his captors gave him. A teenager taken from his family, tortured, humiliated, threatened with rape, and falsely imprisoned for 12 years now. You can help Omar by writing to him, donating for his defense, and signing petitions for him. Please visit http://freeomarakhadr.com to learn more.

My female betta is looking really nice in her freshly cleaned and redecorated tank :). 2.5 gallons is a bit smaller than I would prefer for her bit it’s filtered and cleaned regularly and she’s still been pretty active since I had to downsize. Her colors have been getting prettier lately.
