This is an illustration I did for the August 2014 issue of Popular Science Magazine. The assignment was to show a scifi take on human aging in the future. I wanted to do something relatively positive, so I drew a lady whose life has been been prolonged through cybernetic enhancements and augmentation, so she gets to spend time with her great-great-great-great grandchildren.

Thanks to AD Michelle Mruk!

this is beautiful

So I keep wanting to reblog Cyborg Matriarch here, but I keep losing track of her.

She’s not getting away this time.

I really want a sci-fi story to go with this.

Write it Sarah

CNN let viewers #AskACop — and it blew up in their faces

Everyone knows police and social media don’t mix — everyone except CNN, apparently.

Anchor Don Lemon’s show CNN Tonight hosted a town hall meeting Tuesday with police officers dubbed “Cops Under Fire” to explore issues related to police brutality that have occupied the national conversation in past weeks. The show also asked viewers to tweet in questions using the hashtag #AskACop.

It went about as you’d expect

samarsanderz:

I wanted to know more about the victims of today’s horrifying massacre, and since the media’s information wasn’t quite specific enough, I took to Facebook to look for them.

What I found was this playful, innocent status written by a student of Peshawar’s Army Public school. You can just tell how much these kids loved being at school.

Mubeen Shah, the boy at the end, uploaded his cover photo a while back with this quote: “We are a nation of beauty and great grief. Our smiles are much stronger than your guns.”

Mubeen and his other three friends in this picture were all killed by the Taliban today.

And, as much as I want to, I don’t know how to look at these kids and tell them to “Rest in Peace”

Because how can they “Rest in Peace” when every article covering their massacre is riddled by Islamophobic comments?

How can they “Rest in Peace” when they, the victims, are categorized alongside their oppressors?

You do not have to be any particular religion or political party to mourn alongside Pakistan today. Muslim, Christian, Democrat, Republican: it doesn’t matter.
All you have to be is awake.

California is the first state that has banned “gay/trans panic” as a legal defense. Gay and Trans panic as a legal defense is when you say in a court of law that you were driven to a state of temporary insanity by a person being LGBT+ and this is why you were violent towards or killed them. Of course this being used as a defense won’t work in a lot of courts, but it depends on the jury, attorney, and judges. In California its illegal to use this as defense so you don’t have to depend on the hope that decent people will be involved in the case.

In 2013 the American Bar Association passed a resolution urging states to ban this defense, a year later California is still the only state to do so and that happened quite recently.
