I only just found a couple photos of my grandmother and her house.
Virginia Franz died of lung cancer in 2003, and up to then had spent almost every day of her life painting or sculpting. She painted every genre, every category of subject matter, original things and replicas of famous works. She sculpted creepy masks and exaggerated female figures, she turned her bathroom wall into a life sized mural of a mermaid, she made all sorts of unusual stuffed animals and dolls, and she filled her house with thousands of little things that she liked.
A few years after she passed away, my mother moved from Maryland to Florida and had a majority of Virginia’s art loaded into a van (along with most of her own possessions).
The whole van was stolen out of a motel parking lot only miles from its starting point, and nothing in it was ever recovered…. except the painting of roses you see here, which somehow, against all possible odds, wound up for sale at a Goodwill a few miles from my mom’s new Florida home, seven years after the move.
I still have the last two paintings, since I never moved anywhere without them. The three-eyed monster was copied from a drawing I made when I was around three years old, and the blue figure is loosely inspired by the kinds of ancient carvings and artifacts people kept trying to spin as early alien visitors.
It’s likely the rest of her paintings and sculptures have been scattered all across America. She didn’t sign all of them, but many would be signed “V Franz.”
Whoever stole and unloaded all that stuff had to be a little confused by the big box of custom BDSM barbie dolls with tiny hand-made gimp masks. I doubt they could have guessed they were made by a grandmother in her 80’s.
favors4prada asked: I'm moving out soon and it seems like you cook more on the healthier side, it'd be soo helpful if you can do like a guide on how to cook healthy on a budget. I just feel so lost when I'm in a food store lol
frozen vegetables are my best friend…..i buy fresh for some things especially when i wanna treat myself but i load tf up on like frozen broccoli, peapods, edamame, green beans (obv if u dnt like those they have like nearly every vegetable in frozen format). like it’s so cheap, nutritious, and they last like forever. same w fruit and the bonus w that is if u eat them frozen it’s jst like having popsicles. i also eat like hella chickpeas bc i like them + protein + tjey’re soooo cheap!!! like ofc it varies from appetite to appetite and what you’re cooking etc but like a small can of goya chickpeas usually is enough for two meals w me + they are usually a dollar at MOST per can , same w most other goya and store-brand beans. when it comes to bread there are def specific ones i like tto #splurge on but if you are jst getting like wheat bread there’s literally no diff between getting the store brand and the name brand except for it being like way cheaper. my supermarket usually has like 2/$3 bread so i usually get a few and freeze the loaves i’m not immediately using so they stay good til i need them. i also usually load up on ramen noodles bc they’re so cheap but i end up using them in vegetable stir fries and stuff.
tbh i like very rarely buy meat so i can’t give much advice there. i like getting frozen pizza and sweet potato fries and stuff sometimes too bc 1 i am lazy 2 when you dnt have a lot of ingredients and are poor as he’ll + not getting paid for another few days and liek wtf can i eat…… it’s nice to be able to jst throw that stuff in an oven lol.
i think the key for me is going grocery shopping when i am not in a rush + when it’s not a busy time of day bc then u can rly like compare prices/scope out sales. bc i’m a p anxious person and when there’s ppl out the a$$ in every aisle i’m like OMG grab w/e soy sauce will do and GO!!!! meanwhile there were 2 for 1 sales on even bigger bottles of soy sauce. (jst an ~example~ but u c what i mean)
i loved tokyo mew mew growing up. i was always so excited about the new transformations and all the characters and drawing this series has been very fun for me.
