Stygiomedusa Gigantea
For the first time ever, stygiomedusa gigantea, a gigantic jellyfish was caught on video by scientists in the Gulf of Mexico. There have only been 115 sightings of this deep sea jellyfish in the past 110 years.
I heard about this jellyfish when I was a kid, so awesome to see actual footage of it!!!
Also it’s fucking scary I’m not going to swim in the ocean ever again.

The prison-industrial complex is so out of control that private prisons have the sheer audacity to order states to keep beds full or face their wrath with stiff financial penalties, according to reports. Private prisons in some states have language in their contracts that state if they fall below a certain percentage of capacity that the states must pay the private prisons millions of dollars, lest they face a lawsuit for millions more.
And guess what? The private prisons, which are holding cash-starved states hostage, are getting away with it, says advocacy group, In the Public Interest.
In the Public Interest has reviewed more than 60 contracts between private prison companies and state and local governments across the country, and found language mentioning “quotas” for prisoners in nearly two-thirds of those contracts reviewed. Those quotas can range from a mandatory occupancy of, for example, 70 percent occupancy in California to up to 100 percent in some prisons in Arizona.
Fut the whuck?
…the fuck? Seriously?

I recently read an article about how women use the word “just” in work life and personal life more than men do because we feel we need to apologize or make whatever we have to say quick. “I’m just writing to say…” “I just want to know…” “Just checking in…”. It seems to trivialize what we have to say.
Don’t apologize or feel you need to make little of what you are saying. Say it with intention. “I’m writing to tell you this…” “I want you to know…” “I’m checking in to make sure…"
Since reading the article I’ve become aware of how much I was adding “just” so soften what I had to say, whether it needed to be softened or not. Say what you have to say with confidence and intent. without apology. what you have to say, no matter what it is, is important.
Mmmmm I hate seeing stuff like this about the way women talk– and how women need to STOP doing things like upspeak and glottal fry and saying “like” or “just” or “sorry” if we are ever to be respected in the workplace. And honestly it is such crap– for one bc these kinds of articles fail to address the actual cause of these vocal tics, and more importantly they do not consider the fact that women face MUCH harsher stigma in the workplace for not being seen as accommodating than men do(theres a study but i dont feel like looking it up). All these things are vocal strategies women use, consciously or not, to seem more approachable and accommodating. It may or may not be a useful strategy but i wish the linguists and speech therapists and bloggers writing about this stuff would think a little harder than “women need to stop talking like this and Be More Confident”

People who go on about how great/sacred/feminine/important or w/e menstruation is are strange. So you’re cis, your reproductive system seems to be working, sanitary supplies don’t break your budget and your periods don’t involve serious complications or fuck up your life. Good job?
No one ever gets those romantic notions about pooping even though its far more universal & intensely satisfying
NOOOOOOOOOOOO 😫
Not to sound like a crazy delusional fanboy, but back when the books were still coming out in like 2006-2013, this is the exact kind of promo Snicket did for the novels. Doesn’t anyone remember the “fake” cover for The Unauthorized Autobiography, “the Nameless Novel” promo and website, the crazy shit printed in copyright, etc.? Also, Netflix said the footage is from the 2004 movie with Jim Carey WHICH IT CLEARLY ISN’T. Aaaaaaaand…the video was uploaded on a YouTube by Eleanora Poe, a character in the books and an alter ego Snicket has actually used before (if I’m not mistaken). Honestly, “whoops this video is fake” is totally the kind of V.F.D.-esque thing that Handler would request be done and could therefore be the start of a brilliant marketing campaign.
This is TOO MUCH for my heart to take

Trump’s ‘Fight!’ Tweet Is Our Call to End Mexican Scapegoating
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump went on Twitter this morning to incite violence against Mexicans. “I love the Mexican people, but Mexico is not our friend. They’re killing us at the border and they’re killing us on jobs and trade. FIGHT!”, Trump tweeted.
Calling on his Twitter followers to “FIGHT!” Mexicans marks a new low for the belligerent Trump. In doing so, he uses the threat of violence in an attempt to quell criticism and, we feel, as retaliation in response to the backlash he’s received over his original anti-Mexican comments made almost two weeks ago in announcing his candidacy.
Such hate speech leads to violence and death, as we’ve seen one too many times in our community.
Shown above are:
Brisenia Flores, 9, shot and killed by Minute Men in their Arizona home in May 2009. Her father Raúl was also killed. Her mother was shot, but survived.
Juan Varela, shot and killed in May 2010 days after SB1070 was passed in Arizona by a neighbor who yelled, “You fucking Mexican, go back to Mexico!” Varela’s family has lived in Arizona since before 1848 when it was still a part of Mexico.
Luis Ramírez, beaten to death by 4 teenagers in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, in July 2008. “Tell your Mexican friends to get the fuck out of Shenandoah,” one of Ramírez’s assailants yelled at him before he was attacked.
10 anti-Mexican hate crimes were reported in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Staten Island, New York, in 2010. The victims were typically men on their way home from work. Almost all of the assailants were young black men.
Anti-Mexican hate speech can’t go unchallenged. The scapegoating of Mexicans ends today!
Everyone needs to see how much of a scumbag Donald Trump is.

NYPD Officers Beat Autistic Teen in Front of His Home
Police officers threw a 17-year-old autistic boy onto the ground outside his Bronx home and punched him in the face — then hauled him to the precinct stationhouse where they questioned him before releasing him without charges, according to a lawsuit.
“They said, ‘What are you doing?’ And I said I wasn’t doing nothing,” he said.
Moments later, the officers — whose identities were not given to Canales or his family — pinned him to the ground and slammed his face into the cement sidewalk, according to the lawsuit.
An officer also punched Canales in the face, according to the suit.
The teen said he didn’t understand what was happening, and said he called out for his mother as the officers dragged him toward the police vehicle…

Is it a Racism? - Yes it is. Abuse? - Yup. NYPD again acting the most “unprofessional” way. Remember, the cop recently attacked an adult man, started box him (video)? - Even an adult could not figure out how to behave in such a situation. At this time, the child has become a victim of the cops. What an autistic child gotta do when the cop decided to practice his force on him? That’s fucked up! I hate them! They are trying to kill us, u see? damn …
