Trichia decipiens. Found this beautiful specimen of slime mold I found in Berthusen Park in WA. Starts out white, then pink, red, and finally becoming brown.
I thought it might be fun to make a collage of some plants that aren’t green. These spooky species are naturally ghost-white or blood-colored. They lack the green pigments that enable plants to make food from the sun. Instead, they are parasites, snatching food from nearby plants.

“The law did something truly bizarre. It would have basically forced women to seek funerary services for a fetus — whether she’d had an abortion or a miscarriage, and no matter how far along the pregnancy was. The law Pence backed would have required all fetal tissue to be cremated or buried, an unprecedented measure in state law.
The wording of the burial provision meant that technically, even if a woman had a miscarriage at eight weeks of pregnancy at home, she would have to keep the blood and tissue, take it to a hospital, and have it buried or cremated by a funeral home.”
I’m still mind blown
What….the fuck is this….
iirc the terminology of bill also made it so that abortions were only justified on certain terms like if the fetus was of an undesirable race or could have a disability. i don’t know any women who have actually had to do this yet and bury remains, i haven’t heard any cases of it being implemented yet. but i can’t imagine. like i can’t even imagine how painful that would be. this is also coming on the heels of purvi patel, a woman who miscarried at home and was put on trial for feticide in indiana. it is a dangerous state to be pregnant in.

I assumed that “Reinvention” was referring to how Pearl stopped acting servile (and for a lack of a better term “pearl-like”) but I think it could also refer to how she changed between the war and the present (aka she now knows how to be “strong in the real way” and is a lot less ruthless/violent than in her war days).
