Is the female man a good book because the title is 😐
I haven’t read it but a quick google and this is noted on the Wikipedia page for it. The title apparently is a reference to one of the characters who is a cis woman calling herself “the female man” because she’s a woman who occupies a male-dominated role, which… ehh
i havent read The Female Man but i read The Barbarian which is a short story also by Russ and i liked it a LOT. very violent - in a good way.
It’s an interesting read! There are definitely some troubling elements (a sex scene between an adult woman and a 15 year old… which they talk about being immoral but still. And for sure some real shitty transphobia). But I remember there being a few scenes that were just shockingly good. And also on the plus side its quite short

Mario is strongest when he is fully aware of what horrible trials he is getting into. When Mario expects to relax and have a good time, he can’t cope with any disasters. This is why Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach so easily during tea parties and he gets caught by ghosts while vacationing.
Luigi never gets caught off guard because he’s in a constant state of insecurity and paranoia. This can be a drawback in straightforward situations, but this also makes him a perfect ghost hunter.
In times of safety, Wario stresses out over minor details to the point of getting sick, but he half-asses life-threatening situations so hard he can’t even die.
We don’t know how Waluigi behaves, probably because it would be unpublishable.
